Spring has Sprung!

You know that time of year when the days begin to last longer, and you don't need to worry about putting a coat on when you head outside? It's great, not going to lie... Except all the sudden you no longer can focus at work.

Well you're not alone.

Here at NMI, we also struggle with this reality because well… patios are a thing. That is why we have come up with some ways to shake off the winter blues and step into this new season running. Let's break down how we plan on doing this.

1. Mental Breaks

Take some time for yourself and de-stress! Staring at the same thing for 20 years is not going to make it go away. Take some intentional time to go get a cup of coffee. Those few minutes away from your desk is sometimes all you need to give you a fresh perspective.

Now we firmly believe in the work hard, play hard mentality. So if you have the opportunity, take your friends from the office and do a team building exercise, go bungee jumping, play golf, join an improv class, go to a happy hour, the options are endless!

2. Catch up on Your ZZZs

Sometimes you need to just get back to the basics and make sure you get enough sleep at night. Sleep is usually the first thing that gets pushed to the side because you're always going to feel like there are never enough hours in a day. Well stop it. Seriously. Start making sleep a priority!

And no, I don't mean sleeping in till 11:00am every morning, I mean go to bed early enough to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Rise and Grind! 😉

3. Set Goals

What is standing in the way of your success? Your lack of goals. Writing your goals is a great way to keep track of your success and keep the momentum moving. Seriously, nothing feels better than checking something off the list. As well, goals are great because they give you motivation and something to constantly strive for.

4. Throw Distractions in the Garbage

Set your phone on silent and put it in a sealed container with a lock and key. Just kidding. But really, whatever is distracting you in that moment remove yourself from it. Don't let distractions take control of you, take control of the situation and get rid of them. You are stronger!

5. Don't Procrastinate

Nike has said it right all along, just do it. Procrastination is going to weigh you down! The best way to combat it is to start checking things off your list. Some ways to do this: set a timer for how long you're going to be working on something. Or breaking your projects off into little chunks, start small and work your way through it. But my personal favourite way to combat procrastination is to reward yourself with chocolate once you have completed a task.

Whatever it is that helps you kill procrastination, just do it.

We would love to hear how you're planning on staying focused this Spring!
