As September rolls on, we say hello to fall and hello to a new fiscal year here at New Moon Ideas. We treat September as our new year spiritually as well – a chance to look inside ourselves as an organization and practice what we preach on staying fresh, exciting, and thoughtful.
If you’re a Simpsons fan, the word “crisatunity” isn’t new to you. In a 1994 episode of The Simpsons, Homer’s daughter Lisa mentions that the Chinese use the same word for both crisis and opportunity to which Homer replies “Yes! Cris-atunity!” (Not entirely factual but we like it, and we are using it)
We don’t need to tell you about the challenges and adversities we’ve all faced in the last few years but let’s be honest, it can be hard to avoid the negative tunnel vision that hard times bring. We’re flipping the script and turning crisis into crisatunity by staying grounded in our three core pillars of always being fresh, exciting and thoughtful.
FRESH
This year it’s a clean slate, an opportunity to try new things. The “this is the way we’ve always done it” narrative doesn’t fly anymore. We recognize that this is a time for thinking freely, for growth, and for our biggest whiteboarding sessions yet.
Tip to keep it fresh: Write down a challenge you’re facing and brainstorm ways to overcome it from obvious to absurd – you might be surprised at how many different ideas you produce.
EXCITING
This year it’s like jumping off a cliff and not knowing what is going to be at the bottom. Now we tend to be more of adrenaline seekers, so this pumps us up, but we recognize that this feeling is not for everyone. Basically, in this freefall we try to quiet the alarm bells, trust the process and let the wind take us to new adventures. Different doesn’t have to be scary.
Tip to keep it exciting: Try something new – at work or in your personal life. Breaking routine can be intimidating but also invigorating and reinspiring.
THOUGHTFUL
Now more than ever we are reflecting on our journey as a company and the waves we’ve endured. We’re grateful to the clients that continue to seek our wild ideas and to the team that pulls all the pieces together on every project. We’re feeling thankful, humbled, and happy to be where we are at this moment.
Tip to keep it thoughtful: While there’s always multiple things on the go, focus on one task at a time. Take a breath before the next one.
Being negative only makes the journey more challenging. You may have been given a cactus, but you don’t have to sit on it. As our story unfolds this year, you will continue to see how New Moon Ideas chooses to see the glass half full. It’s just who we are 😊 Happy NMI New Year, friends!
